Navigating the New Jersey Driving Landscape: A Cautious Approach
As a young driver in New Jersey, I’ve always been eager to drive. The freedom a driver’s license brings is exciting. But, new changes in new jersey driving laws and nj young drivers have made me think twice.
Krish Patel from West Orange High School has inspired me. He didn’t rush for his license at 17. Instead, he waited two more months for 50 hours of practice driving.
Practice is key for Krish and his friends knew this. They pushed for a bill. This bill asked for 50 practice hours for teen drivers under 21 to get their driving permit.
Krish’s story made me see things differently. The more practice, the better. Driving practice legislation is very important for safer driving. Currently in New Jersey, only 6 hours of driver training are mandatory for 16-year-olds with a permit. This shows in the safety rankings.
Advocates for Highway & Auto Safety say teens need 70 hours of practice. This is a big difference from what the law requires now.
